Child Custody
Nothing in a family law case matters more than your children. Whether you are going through a divorce, were never married, or need to revisit an existing arrangement, MK Law helps Fort Lauderdale parents protect their relationship with their kids and reach custody arrangements that actually work.
How custody works in Florida
Florida does not use the word “custody” in the old sense. Instead, the law speaks of parental responsibility — who makes major decisions about the children — and time-sharing — the schedule of when the children are with each parent. Every case is built around a parenting plan, and every decision is measured against one standard: the best interests of the child. Courts generally favor both parents remaining actively involved, but the specifics are fought and won on the facts of your family.
When custody goes to trial
Most parenting plans are negotiated. But when the other side is unreasonable, or when your child’s wellbeing or safety is genuinely at stake, you want a lawyer who is ready to make the case in front of a judge. As trial lawyers, that is exactly what we are built for — presenting evidence, examining witnesses, and advocating hard for the outcome your children need.
Modifications and enforcement
Life changes — a move, a new job, a parent who stops following the plan. We help parents modify time-sharing and parental responsibility when circumstances have substantially changed, and we enforce existing orders when the other parent won’t comply.
